Urban Land Institute at the Areal Bohler in Dusseldorf

At an event organized by the Urban Land Institute (ULI) this week, I had the opportunity to visit the tradition-steeped Areal Bohler in Dusseldorf. I was previously familiar with the site as a trade fair location for the Polis Convention. Sebastian Kahl from Areal Bohler Operating Company gave us participants insights into an interesting combination of industrial history and modern utilization concepts.

Jamestown acquired the property in 2023 for €156 million and will continue to develop it over the next 15 years. In addition to refurbished industrial halls, modern offices and commercial spaces will be created that are tailored to the needs of today's working world. The site also has leisure facilities, including beach clubs, restaurants, and even an artificial surf wave in the RheinRiff.

The Ponce City Market building complex in Atlanta (Georgia/USA) serves as a model for the future positioning of the Areal Bohler. Jamestown purchased this historic brick complex in 2011 and successfully converted and revitalized the property with a modern concept in the following years.

All in all, another exciting ULI event with many new encounters. Many thanks to the organizers.

Special thanks also to Dennis Meyering from Momeni Real Estate for the spontaneous photo.
