Stuttgart's population declined last year, but there is still a shortage of apartments, as in other major cities in Germany. The city aims to add 1,800 units to the market each year. In the previous year, the number fell short again, at around 1,500 apartments. In the next 10 years, the housing deficit is likely to exceed 20,000 units.
