This week, I had the opportunity to exchange views with Manfred Pentz, Hessian Minister for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs, and Bureaucracy Reduction, at the summer reception of the Frankfurt SME and Economic Union (MIT).
On Monday, the Hessian state government introduced its first comprehensive law for reducing bureaucracy. Around 120 regulations are to be streamlined, procedures accelerated, and unnecessary formalities eliminated. This is a step in the right direction for the real estate industry. However, the federal government and the EU are also responsible for many regulations.
The high density of regulations has a direct impact on planning processes and production costs. Regulatory simplification offers the potential to reduce construction costs. It is correct that the state government views bureaucracy reduction as a permanent task and plans to pass another bureaucracy reduction law annually. Every simplification increases the reliability of procedures and, therefore, the attractiveness to investors.
My thanks to Dr. Veronica Fabricius and the Frankfurt MIT for the invitation and the opportunity for direct dialogue. Such formats strengthen mutual understanding between SMEs and politicians.
