After the holidays, there is hardly a better way to kick off the new year than the New Year's receptions of the real estate and Pfandbrief bank DZ Hyp. The traditional events have become a fixed date in the real estate industry calendar. For me, it is an excellent opportunity to discuss current developments with industry participants and to ring in the new year in my network. While the Frankfurt reception is still to come, I was already at the Munich New Year's reception at the Bayerischer Hof this week. The event was co-hosted by the commercial law firm GSK Stockmann.
After welcoming speeches by Sabine Barthauer (Chairwoman of the Board of DZ Hyp) and Dirk Brückner (Partner GSK Stockmann), Prof. Dr. Verena Rock, President of the Society for Property Researchers in Germany (gif), underlined the common desire of the real estate industry associations to join forces in the sector.
The keynote speaker was then TV presenter and journalist Ingo Zamperoni (ARD / Tagesthemen). As a former US correspondent, he explained the background to the re-election of US President Donald Trump and shared his assessment of the possible consequences for Germany.
According to Ingo Zamperoni, from a German perspective, the glass can be seen as half full or half empty regarding the new direction of US policy. Europe and Germany could emerge stronger from a Trump presidency, as it would require us to take more personal responsibility. In uncertain times, however, Trump's communication would be a challenge. Overall, Trump is a black box that is difficult to assess.
My heartfelt thanks to the organizers for a great event. I will also be attending the Frankfurt New Year's reception.
